Four Basic Face Care Tips

Our faces make us unique from other people. As such, it makes sense to adopt good face care steps to protect your face from the vagaries of nature and of ageing.  As Coco Chanel once said:

"Nature gives you the face you have at twenty. Life shapes the face you have at thirty.
But at fifty you get the face you deserve"

Basic Steps

Taking good care of your facial skin need not be an exercise in complexity. On the contrary, the more simple the regime, the better for your face and the more natural the products used, the more beautiful your skin will be. Organic and natural skin care is the best way of getting gorgeous, radiant, glowing skin.

There are four basic steps to looking after your skin.

Step 1

Cleanse your face using a mild cleanser. Steer clear of bar soaps as these can dry out the skin; instead, use a foam or gel or liquid  face cleansing that contains the right amount of oil, water and other natural ingredients. Avoid using cleansers that contain SLS's. Use gentle circular motions to dislodge dirt as well as lukewarm water to rinse away it away.

Step 2

Exfoliate your skin with a granular product to remove dead skin cells. However, be very careful about over exfoliation as you can rob the skin with much-needed moisture. Just 1-2 times a week will suffice.

Use and alcoholic toner on your face. Toning is an important step in face care because it removes any remaining make up or grime still left after the cleansing process.

Step 3

Moisturise your face with face moisturiser. Don't use body lotion as the concentrations are very different in each product simply because your face and body have different moisture needs. Again, opt for organic skincare for maximum benefits.

Step 4

Apply sunscreen. The sun is damaging to the skin so applying sun lotions on your face makes good sense. However, only apply moisturisers with sunscreen during the day, not at night as these can aggravate existing skin problems (and you won't need the sun-protection when you are asleep!)

Why Organic?

As you will have noticed, the emphasis in face care is on organic skincare. Your face is one of the most delicate parts of your body and, hence, needs equally delicate care from only the most skin-friendly products of which organic and natural products are best.

Organic products do not contain synthetic chemicals and preservatives, artificial colours and fragrances, even derivatives of pesticides and fertilisers, all of which will harm your skin in more ways than one. You might have heard of parabens - many people beleive parabens are carciogenic.  They are commonly used as preservatives in synthetic beauty products.

Also, scientific studies have pointed out what many advocates of organic skincare products have long known. Natural products contain more nutrients and antioxidants than their non-organic counterparts, thanks in part to the substantial retention of the vitamins and minerals present in the plants and herbs used for organic products.

So, the next time somebody offers you face care products, ask if these are natural or organic skincare items. These organic and natural products support and enhance the skin's ability to heal itself.  Most people find that their underlying skin problems disappear when they make the switch to organic or natural skin care.   Ultimately, you will have better-looking skin!
